Empowering Christians to Protect the Vulnerable and Stand Against Exploitation

At Operation Zian, we believe the Church has a powerful role to play in protecting the vulnerable, confronting injustice, and demonstrating the love of Jesus Christ through action.

Our New Zealand ministry is dedicated to equipping churches, Christian communities, and individuals with the knowledge, resources, and confidence to recognise abuse, respond appropriately, and help prevent exploitation.

Through awareness initiatives, educational workshops, biblical teaching, and community partnerships, we seek to inspire Christians to become a voice for those who cannot speak for themselves.

Faith That Moves Us to Action

Proverbs 31:8 calls us to "Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves."

We believe protecting children and vulnerable people is not simply the responsibility of governments and organisations. The Church also has a responsibility to demonstrate Christ's compassion through meaningful action.

Our vision is to see churches across New Zealand equipped to recognise the warning signs of exploitation, create safer communities, support survivors with compassion, and respond with wisdom.

Together, we can build a Church that not only speaks about justice but actively pursues it.

Exploring How Culture, Poverty, and Social Pressures Can Contribute to Exploitation

To effectively combat exploitation, we must first understand the environments in which it occurs.

Across Southeast Asia, cultural traditions, family expectations, economic pressures, and social structures can differ significantly from those experienced in New Zealand. Understanding these differences is essential to recognising why some children and families become particularly vulnerable to trafficking, abuse, and exploitation.

At Operation Zian, we seek to equip New Zealand churches with a deeper understanding of the cultural and social factors that can contribute to exploitation, particularly in countries such as the Philippines, Thailand, and Cambodia.

Looking Beyond Our Own Experiences

In some communities, extreme poverty, limited access to education, financial dependence, and pressure to support extended family members can create circumstances that offenders exploit.

These vulnerabilities are often complex and cannot be explained by poverty or culture alone. Exploitation can also be driven by organised criminal activity, corruption, inadequate protection systems, and the actions of individuals who deliberately take advantage of vulnerable people.

Through education, real-world experiences, and cross-cultural discussions, we aim to help Christians understand these challenges without stereotyping communities or overlooking their strengths.

Understanding Leads to Compassionate Action

We believe that meaningful change begins with understanding.

By helping churches recognise the differences between our experiences in New Zealand and those of vulnerable communities overseas, we hope to encourage greater compassion, culturally informed outreach, and practical action.

Our mission is not to judge cultures, but to understand the circumstances that allow exploitation to flourish and equip the Church to respond with wisdom, humility, and the love of Christ.
