Help us, help them!
the movement
Five years ago, I was involved in an operation in Asia that changed my life forever.
Authorities had received credible intelligence about a suspected child predator from a western country paying for online abuse of children.
Because information was shared between trusted partners, action could be taken quickly.
That intelligence led us to a little boy who was only two and a half years old.
Today, that child is safe
I often think about what would have happened if that information had never been shared. What if the warning had never reached the right people? What if someone had decided the child was in another country and therefore someone else's responsibility?
The reality is that child exploitation does not stop at national borders.
Predators travel. Networks operate internationally. Children are exploited in countries all around the world. Yet the systems designed to protect them are often separated by geography, bureaucracy, and inconsistent cooperation.
This petition is not about politics.
It is about protecting children.
We believe New Zealand should continue strengthening its efforts to work alongside trusted international partners to identify offenders, share intelligence, support investigations, and help bring vulnerable children to safety.
We also believe New Zealanders who commit serious offences against children overseas should face accountability and that our laws should continue evolving to ensure there are no safe havens for those who exploit the vulnerable.
Every child deserves protection, regardless of where they live.
Every piece of intelligence could be the difference between a child remaining in danger and a child finding freedom.
Every piece of intelligence could be the difference between a child remaining in danger and a child finding freedom.
The little boy we found is proof of that.
That is why we are asking New Zealanders to stand with us.
Stand With Us for Stronger Modern Slavery Laws
Modern slavery is one of the greatest human rights challenges of our generation. Millions of people around the world—including children—are trapped in forced labour, sexual exploitation, domestic servitude, forced marriage, and human trafficking.
New Zealand has an opportunity to become a leader in protecting vulnerable people by strengthening our laws and ensuring businesses, government, and communities all play their part in preventing exploitation.
At Operation Zian, we believe prevention must be matched with strong legislation. While our organisation focuses on protecting children, supporting vulnerable communities, raising awareness, and partnering with trusted organisations, we also recognise that lasting change requires effective laws that hold offenders accountable and help prevent exploitation before it occurs.
We are grateful for the years of advocacy led by organisations including World Vision New Zealand, Trade Aid, survivor advocates, legal experts, businesses, and many others who have worked tirelessly to bring modern slavery legislation before Parliament. Their work has created real momentum for change.
Operation Zian is committed to supporting these efforts by contributing practical frontline experience and advocating for legislation that not only addresses supply chains but also strengthens victim protection, improves prevention, enhances intelligence sharing, and equips agencies to combat trafficking more effectively.
